The structural scaffolding
of a new reality.

Conscious framing is power. Here is the framework, concept by concept, for moving with intention from the old frame to the new.

Reframe the Language

THE OLD FRAME, STATED PLAINLY

“Deaf people are subhuman, a biological mistake,
and unworthy of investment.”

The derogatory words and imagery are endless – but they all say the same thing. Every idea within the old deaf frame, implicit or explicit, arrives at this verdict. A word and an action can either destroy or inspire. It is with words and actions that we recreate a whole new reality.

  • When you say "I cannot hear", you implicitly suggest a deficit – a problem with your worth. "I don't hear" demonstrates a conscious choice. How you define yourself sets the frame. Own it.

  • End the harmful narrative that speech and hearing equate opportunity. No one person has the same opportunity — the notion of opportunity is highly contextual, subjective, and relative. Stop measuring Deaf life against a hearing standard that was never universal to begin with.

  • Sign Language is not a "deaf language." It is a human language – a gift for everyone. It activates parts of the brain that spoken language doesn't, stimulating greater human connection and higher cognitive function. Hearing babies are encouraged to learn it; Deaf babies are discouraged. That asymmetry has never been about language. It has always been about perceived value. Everyone benefits from Sign Language because it belongs to all of humanity.

  • Sign Language Interpreters are not spokespeople, parents, babysitters, or guides. They are professionals. All three parties, Deaf person, interpreter, and hearing person, have inherent and relative power. No one is a bridge. Everyone is a participant.

HERE’S WHAT WE SAY INSTEAD

Reframe the Identity

When you change a frame, an ideology changes. Our lives depend on it.

One Shared World

This isn’t a “hearing world.” It isn’t a man’s world or white people’s world either. You are not a guest or a visitor of this world. You are an integral member of human diversity.

Greater Cognition

Sign Languages are powerful cognitive stimulants and wires the brain in ways that enhances higher connectivity and spatiality. There is a reason why hearing babies are encouraged to learn sign language whereas deaf babies are discouraged. It’s about the money and perceived value – and it is time to reclaim that value.

You are Powerful

The world doesn’t owe you anything and conversely, you do not owe anybody anything. Remove the victim mentality and discover your inner power. This requires practice. It is worth it.

Burst your Bubble

Get out of the bubble. Remove the fear of hearing people and present your beautiful self to the world. Negotiate and assert your self-definition, self-worth.

Allies aren’t a Necessity

While nobody succeeds alone, you do not need hearing people in particular to succeed. In the same way that women do not need men to succeed or BIPOC do not need white people to succeed. People need people to succeed and it begins with self-respect. True allies do not call themselves allies. They step up only because they uphold higher principles.

You are Worthy

You are worthy. You are valuable. Believe it. Act like it. Walk (or wheel) into the building as if you own a space – because your existence is your space.

Self-Representation

Take a stand for yourself today with a conscious reframing of the self and you will experience authenticity. You do not need to be translated, mediated, or interpreted into acceptability. You are already whole.

All Sumains are Bilingual

[Deaf] people have developed an irrational fear of English language – so much that it has become a cultural norm. End this culture of fear today. There are 6,500 languages worldwide. All languages belong to all of humanity.

Reframe the System

“It has been a centuries long ideological battle
that needs to end, here and now.”

– RYAN COMMERSON

Deconstruct Inclusion

Inclusion means: wait to be invited. Why wait? If you want a seat at the table, bring your own chair. Or build your own table. Nobody owes you anything and vice versa. That is liberating. When you put yourself in the room and the design of an idea changes as a result, that is not inclusion. That is power.

Profit for who?

Why is Deafness framed as a "socio-economic burden" when it generates millions for industries built around it? Deaf existence is a multi-million dollar commodity. Recognise your value and profit from yourself.

Take Initiative

Stop defending your worth. Complaints indicate that you believe you are powerless. Realise your power, take action, change course, and begin producing. Invest in yourself towards a new tomorrow. You will be surprised at how quickly you transform.

Ability is a Distraction

It has never been about your ability. It has always been about your perceived value. The conversation on ability is a distraction from what is real: your inherent, invested, and negotiated value. All relationships are transactional and all transactions are about value, not ability.

Critical Pedagogy

To rewrite reality, we must build a culture of critical thought – in schools, in homes, in every facet of life. Become comfortable asking hard questions. Practice listening without interrupting. When we truly listen, we create space for new ideas to emerge – and new cultures to form.

"Dis-" is a locking prefix

"Dis–" means loss of, lacking. It appears in over 1,000 words, all sharing the same diminishing meaning. A word locked down by a definitive prefix cannot be effectively reframed. "Disability" cannot be redeemed, it must be replaced. For the community to transform and advance, we need a new word and a new framework entirely.

03

The frame is clear.
Now put it to work.

Every contribution, however small, compounds into an ideological shift.
